Sips of cooling soup

And a book shared,

Are enough for a measurement

Of the soul, enough

To bring forth a moment

To speak of textures of the spirit,

Of length and breadth,

Absence and abundance.

Sipping, turning pages,

Voices echo in broadening space,

Broadening despite all things,

Against time and place:

A house, midday, the bell,

Shoes on tiles, settlings,

An empty chair,

All broadening into ritual,

For an encounter with love.
