Poetry | The Spider and the Fly

There is no escape from here,
No drink, or drug, or man,
Or woman! that can enter
This room and pull me beyond,
Out of, through all this.
I saw a spider’s web and it
Showed me a glistening net,
I am the industrious spider,
And I am the fly; I can spin
The web as far and wide
As my earthly mind will go,
And know the only thing
I will ever catch is myself.
So this is how to dream!
How wide will I spin the web?
With what courage and attention
Will I give form to dreams?
And then, when I am caught,
When, one sunny day, as
I fly through space, unknowing,
What humility must open
To change suffering to joy?
